8th ICA The Swiss Working Team on Aerobiology was founded in 1983. It became the Swiss Society for Aerobiology in 1993. During these two decades, it has organized several interdisciplinary Congresses of national importance on the topics of pollen, fungal spores, dust mite, and allergies. This team has worked successfully to create a permanent monitoring network in Switzerland. SSA is an Associated Society of the IAA.
Since 1993, the biometeorology team of MeteoSwiss, the national weather service, has been responsible for the national pollen monitoring network. This small, young, but very active team takes advantage of its proximity with weather forecast and modelling specialists. Its main research topics are pollen forecasts and pollen transport in and over the Alps. The possible invasion of Switzerland by ragweed is also a hot topic for the coming years.
